Apple Smartphone line named “iPhone” designed, promoted and sold by Apple since Jun 2007. The first iPhone was released on June 29, 2007 and  introduced the world to a phone with a brand new and unique user interface, multi-touch touch screen, camera, electronic compass with GPS, and gravity sensor.  If we look at the iPhone history, even back in 2007 when iPhone 1 was launched by Steve Jobs, he introduced iPhone to the consumers as a single device that was a top of the line phone but could also play movies and music, edit photos and could send and receive text messages. These phone features put the iPhone far ahead of phones available in the market at that time. The launch of the iPhone helped Apple achieve success in personal phone innovation. The most recent iPhone model is iPhone 7, which was released not long ago on Sep 7, 2016. Jun 2017 marks the 10 year anniversary of apple iPhone.

Apple has released several models, from the original 3.5′ iPhone to the latest 5.5′ iPhone 7 Plus.  All iPhone models run Apple’s iOS mobile OS, the most recent being Apple’s iOS 10. The  original iPhone features a single 2-MP camera, the latest iPhone 7 Plus has a dual camera system, with a 12MB back and 7MP front facing.

So far Apple has released 15 models of iPhone, released every 12-18 months over the past decade. Apple iOS has also gone through several updates starting from iOS 1 to the latest iOS 10.  Looking back at the iPhone history, Apple gen 1 iPhone was a GSM phone, followed by the iPhone 3GS with upgraded hardware. The iPhone 4 was introduced as a phone with  front-facing camera and metal undercarriage while the 4S was more responsive and introduced us to the personal assistant Siri. The iPhone 5 showcased a taller, 4-inch screen and the signature flat lightning connector. In 2013, Apple released the iPhone 5S with upgraded processor and a remarkably responsive multi-touch touch screen. A lower-cost 5C was also released that had plastic casing instead of metal. They were trailed by the greater iPhone 6, which features two models including, a smaller 4.7-inch and a larger screen 5.5-inch model. The iPhone 6S was introduced the following year, which included Apple’s A9 chip and gave the iPhone a much needed power boost. Same year apple also introduced the Apple SE which packed same A9 chip in a 5S casing making it the most powerful apple iPhone models at the time, it was also introduced at a price starting at $399, much lower than its predecessors.

The Apple iOS user interface  and the new features are all built around the iPhone’s multi-touch screen, including a virtual console. The iPhone has Wi-Fi and can associate with a variety of cell services.  The latest iPhone 7 Plus come equipped with dual-cameras, a 12MP back camera and a 7MP front-facing camera, making it a unique phone that not only takes stunning pictures but also one of the best phone out there for video recording. In addition to taking great pictures and video, iPhone can also play music, play games, send and receive emails, surf the web, send and get IM, audio/video Facetime calling, GPS navigator, record notes, visual voicemail, voice assist and many more.  Apple’s App Store offers thousands  of applications by Apple and third parties developers using one of the largest app developer network.

Apple iPhone success has been credited with reshaping the mobile phone industry as we know it today and making the Apple brand one of the world’s most loved consumer companies. The first iPhone was one of the principal telephones to utilize a plan highlighting a slate arrange with a touchscreen interface. Almost all advanced cell phones have reproduced this style of design.

In the US, iPhone 7, 7 Plus, &  6s are the three most popular smartphones capturing 31.3% share of smartphone sales and overall Apple iPhone has 43.5%  market share.
